Rare Bloodlines Scheme
Information Note on the Irish Draught Rare Bloodlines Scheme
In April 2006 a delegation from ICBF, the RDS and the Department of Agriculture and Food presented a proposal to the Board of the Irish Horse Board in relation to a scheme to promote the conservation of the Irish Draught Horse. The delegation made a number of recommendations regarding the use of genetically diverse S1 ID and RID (GB) stallions. After careful consideration the Irish Horse Board agreed to implement the following proposal:
A maximum of 20 progeny per year of certain genetically diverse S1 ID and RID (GB) stallions will be eligible for inspection for RID status;
The progency of such stallions will receive blue passports when they are registered as a foal and will receive green passports if/when they pass inspection for RID status;
In order to be elibible for inspection (and green passports) progeny of the selected stallions must have been born from 2007 onwards and their dams must be classified as RID (or AID in the case of female progeny);
The list of genetically diverse S1 ID and RID (GB) stallions may be altered from time to time following consultation with ICBF. Up to date lists are available from the Irish Horse Board offices or can be downloaded from www.irishsporthorse.com.
