Micheál Casey and his wife Madge from Springfield, Mohill, Co Leitrim are known the length and breath of Ireland and beyond. Micheal inherited his love of Irish Draughts from his late father. One of his first mares was “Springfield Daisy” by “Glengarriff” whom he once rode the 78 mile round trip to Roscommon to sell her foal. His next mare “Springfield Dawn” by “Achill” was invited to compete in the RDS in 1967 for the first running of the revived Irish Draught mare class. She finished reserve that day and went on to produce the stallion “The Galway Boy”. After “Springfield Dawn” Micheál's next mare was “Springfield Star” by “Ben Purple”. She went on to produce two Stallions for Micheál “Cummer Hero” by “Lahinch” and “Duleek Hero” by “Irelands Pride”. Micheal soon became known through the country as a shrewd Judge of Irish Draughts and Connemara ponies. As a Judge and an Inspector Micheál has done countless miles in this country and beyond. Micheál has judged in England, America and Canada as well as every part of Ireland. He is still a very active and highly respected judge and highly deserving of this Hall of Fame Award.
